The Greatest Dedication
It is a technique in which a machine replaces the main functions of the kidney, passing the blood through a filter (functioning as an artificial kidney) where it is purified, this technique does not supply the endocrine or metabolic functions of the kidney.
It is an extracorporeal blood purification technique, which is used in end-stage acute or chronic renal failure and which supplies the following functions: excretion of solutes, elimination of retained fluid, and regulation of acid-base and electrolyte balance.
It consists of contact, through a semi-permeable membrane, installed in the dialyzer or hemodialysis filter of the patient's blood, with a dialysis liquid (dialysate) of predetermined characteristics.
Duration of hemodialysis : It depends on the dialysis needs of each patient, the average is 4 hours, three times a week. Keep in mind that the healthy kidney performs this work 24 hours a day and every day of the week.
